About the team

The Regulatory team at Adyen isn't a typical regulatory department. We're a dynamic, global team that’s deeply embedded in the business, not siloed away. Our mission is evolving. While payments are our foundation, our future lies in the financial products we build on top of that platform. We’re talking about giving our customers the tools to truly run their business – from smart business accounts and flexible access to capital, to issuing their own payment cards. This is our next big chapter, and it's where we see massive potential for growth.

That’s where you come in. We're looking for a proactive and resourceful Product Counsel to be the key advisor and a leading voice for this entire product suite in the EU. You won’t just be reviewing documents from the sidelines. You will be a core strategic partner to the product and engineering teams, shaping our roadmap and helping us navigate the complex regulatory landscape with creativity and a business-first mindset. Your insights will directly influence how these products are built, launched, and scaled, making you instrumental in building the future of Adyen.

What you’ll do

You’ll be the go-to expert for the teams dreaming up and building our next generation of financial products in the EU. This is a highly collaborative role where you'll tackle fascinating challenges at the intersection of technology, finance, and law.

Responsibilities

• Act as the key strategic advisor, embedded within the financial products teams. You'll be there from the earliest whiteboard sessions to the final launch decisions, helping shape the product's direction, not just its terms.
• Dive deep into the most interesting legal puzzles in fintech. You'll master the intricacies of financial regulations like PSD2, e-money directives, and lending rules, and translate them into product features that are both innovative and compliant. This isn't about saying 'no'; it's about finding the creative 'how'.
• Become a trusted partner to a diverse group of experts, from product managers and engineers to designers and data scientists. You'll be the legal voice in product stand-ups, strategy meetings, and design reviews, ensuring that we build responsibly without sacrificing speed.
• Be our eyes and ears on the future of financial regulation in the EU. You'll anticipate upcoming regulatory shifts, understand their impact on our roadmap, and proactively develop strategies to keep Adyen at the forefront of the industry.

Who you are

We’re looking for someone who is passionate about technology, gets excited by complex legal and regulatory challenges, and loves working in a fast-paced environment. You're comfortable with ambiguity and are known for your pragmatic, business-oriented advice.

We’d love to hear from you if you:

• Have 4+ years of experience in working in an EU law firm or in-house legal team working with financial institutions on legal and regulatory aspects of product development.
• Genuinely love technology and can get up to speed quickly on complex financial products.
• Are an excellent communicator who can explain complex legal concepts to non-lawyers without putting them to sleep.
• Thrive in a fast-paced environment where you can take ownership of your work and manage multiple projects at once.
• Have great judgment and can make smart decisions, even when you don’t have all the answers.
• Have experience with products like lending, issuing, or business accounts – even better!
